Music and lyrics by Joshua H. Cohen
The universe is expanding. The universe is contracting. The universe is a multibillion-year process of returning to room temperature. And here in our little corner of it, the tribulations of our daily lives are doing pretty much the same thing. Sixteen songs provide snapshots of relationships in various stages of decay, and the valiant (sometimes not-so-valiant) efforts of lovers (and not-quite-lovers) to start a fire up or keep one burning. See why love is against the laws of nature... and why most of us do it anyway.
After developmental readings in New York in 2003 by the Genesius Guild/Upstairs@Red and One Arm Red, The Entropy Songs premiered at Abingdon Theatre Company in 2006, inaugurating their cabaret space, directed by Michael Page, with the following cast:
Kate Margaret McCann
Songs from the cycle have been presented all over the country, including Lila Theatre in San Francisco, CA; "Stop the Presses!" in Washington, DC; Clear Space Productions’ New Works Festival in Rehoboth Beach, DE; and Who Am I Anyway, the New York cabaret debut of Broadway’s Matt Castle.
A New York City revival was be produced in May 2011 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre by Libra Theater Company. See the show page for details.
